Community Trace: Volunteer-Driven Contact Tracing for COVID-19

Contact tracing is a critical component of response activities to limit spread of COVID-19. Given the limited capacity of state and local health departments to conduct these activities during the emerging pandemic, the Yale School of Public Health, together with other Yale academic partners and local and state health entities, launched a program to train volunteers to interview newly infected patients, identify community members at-risk based on connections to the index patient, and notify such “contacts” to provide guidance on self-isolation and self-monitoring of symptoms in order to prevent ongoing transmission in the community.
