Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor Sterilization of N95 Respirators for Reuse

Yale New Haven Hospital and researchers in the departments of urology, infectious diseases, pediatrics, and ecology and evolutionary biology are testing the ability of utilizing hydrogen peroxide vapor to disinfect respirator masks used by health care workers treating patients infected with COVID-19 virus. Although researchers did not test for its ability to disinfect COVID-19 itself, a device commonly used to disinfect hospital rooms by circulating vaporized hydrogen peroxide cleared three types of viruses with similar characteristics to those of COVID-19 when these viruses were placed on N95-respirators.
