Local Industry Respirator Design

In another effort to increase access to face masks, staff and faculty at the School of Medicine, the Yale Center for Engineering Innovation & Design (CEID), and Yale Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), are working with Unilever in the production of alternative respirators made with two distinct high-volume production methods: blow-molding and injection-molding. Yale is coordinating with Unilever on all aspects of the development and review of the devices, including consultation on the initial designs, form-fitting, testing the devices’ particle removal and flow impedance, and potentially sealing experiments. Unilever has also partnered with other suppliers to help source and manufacture the devices.
